Erasmus day in Primary school dr. Ljudevita Pivka Ptuj, Slovenia

Pupils and teachers who attended mobilities within our Erasmus +projects at our partner schools  shared their experiences from visits by words and pictures. We prepared presentation for students and teachers in our school to present the activities of our partners, in which we ourselves had the opportunity to participate. (Turkey, Poland and  Italy, ) to celebrate Erasmus Day with us.

Erasmus day in OŠ Otona Ivekovića, Zagreb, Croatia

This event took place during the afternoon on 11th October 2019 in the Erasmus+ Corner in the main school hallway. The four Erasmus+ projects that our school participates, or participated in, were showcased for the students and the parents.

VEAC: Values – The Essence of an Active Citizen, 2015-2017, our first Erasmus+ project, in which we studied and compared the traditional values of the partner countries.

I.D.E.A. Together we can!, 2018-2020, a project on inclusion, which gives the children with developmental difficulties the opportunity to take active part in and join in the mobilities.

SWOT Scouts, 2018-2020, a project which focuses on promoting emotional intelligence and social skills.

Bon Appetite Europe!, 2019-2021, a project in which we can share our European cultural heritage through cuisine.

The students who actively participate in all the project activities and who have been in the mobilities were project promotors. They  holded presentations on the projects, as well as talking about their own experiences from mobilities, and the knowledge they gained by participating in the project. There was a display of the memorabilia brought back from the mobilities in the Erasmus+ Corner, representing all the partner countries. Students who choose to come by and look around, had an opportunity to play digital puzzle games putting together project logos and finding the project partners on the map of Europe, as well as play the auditory game of Can you recognize the language?

Impression of Slovenian teachers in LTT in Instituto Comprensivo Giuliano Giorgio from Montorio Romano, Italy

6 teachers from Slovenia atended in LTT in Instituto Comprensivo Giuliano Giorgio from Montorio Romano, Italy.

When reviewing their PEI (Individualized Educational Plan), we found that the document contained tools for a detailed and clear identification of the child under consideration. However, we found the document too broad, even though it contained an objective type of answers (you can choose the answers from the suggestions given). On the same day we visited Hadrian's villa, which impressed us with its magnificence and architecture. Our very experienced guide took us on a vivid journey through time.

At the school in Montorio Romano, we were very pleasantly welcomed. Maria Teodolinda Saturn's lecture brought us new knowledge about inclusion in Italy. At Istituto professionale per i servizi alberghieri e ristorazione - Ranieri Antonelli Costaggini in Rieti we saw a good practical example of inclusion; as we were served coffee by a special needs student of a catering school. We actively participated in two workshops at the Nerola School. In the dance workshop we learned an Italian traditional dance. A dance is a great enrichment of a class, so we have already included it at our school. In the second workshop, we baked traditional pastry with the youngest students. The baked good were presented to us as a gift at the farewell ceremony. During the musical, we saw an example how inclusion works in a local community and how students with disabilities participate in a play.

At the Public Institute for Deaf Students and Via Nomentana n ° 54 with a trainer specialized in linguistics and hearing impairment (Maria DeMonte), we were impressed with the professionalism and applicability of the lecturers' content. We especially enjoyed using the sensual sound board.

In Italy, inclusion has been present for decades. Therefore, it is embedded in the school system and daily life. On the environmental perspective, we have noticed that schools use a high number of plastic items for the dining. We must all strive to limit the use of plastics for the health of our planet. After the meal, student did not clean up after themselves, which is a missed chance for teaching them independence.

We felt very welcome in the LTT, which is well designed and implemented. Martina was an excellent host, giving us the culinary and touristic experience of Italy, of course, in addition to the broad professional knowledge she was willing to share with us.

"SADNESS is a Grumpy Cry - baby" - Primary school Oton Iveković, Zagreb, Croatia

“…Sadness is a Grumpy Cry-baby…” says one student note from the workshop about emotions held in Class 6a. 

The students watched the cartoon Inside Out. Afterwards, they were divided into five groups. Each group had the task to describe the characters’ behaviour, emotions and consequences of their behaviour. The children represented the characters through pantomime and acting.

The students were very interested in the film and the theme, and here are some more of their comments:

“…Happiness belittled Sadness…”

“…Anger shouts all the time… sometimes it was necessary…”

“…Fear is worried, sensitive, protective…”

“…Happiness always tries to find a way to cheer someone up…”

The workshop was held by the Social Pedagogist, Jadranka Bašić Parić, and student assistant, Jelena Žanko Milanković.

Impressions of Turkish teachers in LTT to Montorio Romano, Italy

Participants: Ece Erdeniz, Ergül Kaygısız, Murat Kurt,Pınar Yüksel, Burak Keskin, Bilge Aksoy.

We observed the education system and implementations of Italy during the program. Least mandatory education level is 16 years old in Italy. Classrooms capacity is maximum 27 students. Students with special education need (SEN) are educated as much as possible with their peers.    

There are some steps for SEN students which are;

1-      It has been transformed into inclusive education method after 1977 by law,

2-      Related stakeholders include every each person who are in communication with child,

3-      Documentation.

Process for SEN students has designed by the Ministry of Health. There are two types of level for determining the child situation, one is for the students at low level and the other one is for heavy level. This process is implementing with the participation of all stakeholders. Also, this process is being reviewed by the experts and stakeholders.

We observed that “Emotions” are the milestones of the education system in Italy. At the early age groups, games and the older groups structured conversation is the key factor. Besides, one of the most important things in education system is “Art”. 

1^st Day of The Program

27.05.2019 was the first day of the program and it was implemented in Monteflavio. We have briefed regarding Italy Education System and Inclusive Education. It was important to see their perception regarding SEN students. It has always been that SEN students are part of the society and inclusive education plan is designed by this philosophy. One of the curious things is that students who are not speaking Italian fluently are also considered as SEN students.

2^nd Day of the Program

Second day of the program was implemented at Monterio Romano. We have been welcomed by students and their teachers. They performed us with music and also they gave us a tour in the school. Besides, we had a seminar which is called “Emotions”.

3^rd Day of the Program

We gave a visit to Catering and Tourism School in Rietti on third day of the program. Age level of the students is between 14 – 19 years old and the capacity is 1000. Average number of students in each classroom is 20. Important thing is that at least 4 students in every classroom who are diagnosed with learning disability. Physical areas of the school are designed for the student with physically handicapped.

4^rd Day of the Program

The day started with a presentation regarding education of hearing impaired people in Rome. Then, we visited “Istituto Statale per Sordi di Roma” school. This school is implementing a method which is consists of reverse inclusion. Most of the families are choosing this school because number of the student in classrooms are less than others and also number of teachers are quite high. Besides, parents are willing to send their children that school because they want their children to learn sign language even though they are not hearing impaired.

5^th Day of the Program

On the 5^th day of the program, we went to Acquaviva di Nerola and listened student’s performance and their presentation. Afterwards, baby dolls were transferred from one country to another.

To sum up, we observed that students are in the schools that we visited are quite different than the ones in our school. We are told that students who have disability at a high level are included in the education system but we saw only two students who have multiple disability. We had chance to observe reverse inclusion system, Italy’s special education system and their approaches and the best practices. It was nice to see that their education system is trying to raise awareness of other students and their parents as well.

"Inside Out" workshop with students in Szkoła Podstawowa Specjalna nr 40 w Bytomiu- Poland

The younger classes of our school have been invited to the film "Inside Out".

The film became a great excuse to talk about emotions.

Children used a lot of actions and expressions.  

It soon turned out that it's not easy to say how we feel. 

This film and activity help to see and appreciate the good moments in everyday life.

We hope that these extremely important activities will remain in the students' memory for a long time.

Implementation of good practise after Italy - Bytom- Poland

For children with special need it is very hard to talk, recognize, analyze the emotions. It is difficult to talk how you feel in this moment, and how you are going to feel when some situation happens. It is difficult to use your memories and your imagination.

That is why after visiting Italy we decided to prepare for our older students activity which increases recognizing and talking about emotions. We use different techniques, photos, tasks to show our students how important it is to know what we feel and how to talk about it.

When we were in Italy Aleksandra took part in an activity with students where they prepared cookies using different staff and tools. So in our school, we also made cookies with younger students. We spent an amazing time together preparing, talking, smiling and of course eating cookies made by ourselves.
